IKEA is on a mission to be a fully circular business by 2030. As part of achieving that ambition, Domino designed digital and logistical solutions to enable their buy-back, repair and re-sell services.
Starting by creating a unique product passport for every item, IKEA is now able to track the product lifecycle, from purchase to repairs and finally, recycle.
The principal outcomes were an internal logistics platform, including the service design of the handling center, as well as an addition to IKEA’s website for customers to directly view, purchase and sell furniture.
Underlying the UX and service design, was a body of research and strategy to map out the journey of circular furniture and key life moments that would be natural points to engage with IKEA’s circular furniture ecosystem and its complementary services.
